Newly published: De liefde achterna

Francis of Assisi has inspired millions over the centuries. With the coming of pope Francis attention for this 13th century friar minor has grown even more.

The rules of life of Francis are about ‘ordinary’ life and are focused on peace among people and between people and God.
Themes are: act and (mainly) don’t act, humility and brotherhood, imitation and non-exclusiveness.

Willem Marie Speelman wrote explanatory notes that open the content for our times.

Newly published: Spirituele ethiek

Spiritual ethics (Spirituele ethiek) is the concern for the common good, considered as a system of relations between God, man and society. The phenomenon is explored from different angles, to come to a better understanding how ethics -as end and means- is manifested in its spiritual guise. Also, Spiritual ethics offers franciscan perspectives to show us by means of leading ideas of ‘good life’ and ‘good coexistence’ the spiritual forms of ‘being good’ and ‘doing good’.

An experimental book; a blueprint for spiritual thinking about the moral possibilities of man.

Newly published: Armut als Problem und Armut als Weg

Newly published:

Armut als Problem und Armut als Weg
Poverty as Problem and Poverty as Path

Read the pdf (Armut) for more information and how to order.

Poverty is a problem that challenges every period, every society, and every religion. Nowadays, we regard poverty as a global and complex problem as more and more people are affected by involuntary poverty. In contrast
to this the Franciscan way of life chooses a voluntary radical poverty. The two-part international conference in Münster and Utrecht picked out the socio-economic causes and consequences of involuntary poverty, and provided concrete Franciscan contributions to poverty as an alternative and forward-looking path.”

Presentation “De liefde achterna”

The RULe of Francis: de liefde achterna

Presentation on the occasion of the newly published book of Willem Marie Speelman with inspiring comments on the rule of Francis of Assisi.
Francis of Assisi has inspired millions over the centuries. With the coming of pope Francis attention  for this thirteenth-century friar minor has grown even more.

This certainly holds true for Francis as an advocate of care for our natural and social environment. What about his rule for his follwers? Does modern, self-aware man take notice of a rule of life?

At the symposium we first explore the sense and meaning of a rule of life. Next, we focus on Fransis’ vision and aspiration. The rules of life of Francis concern ‘ordinary’ life and are focused on peace among people and between people and God.

Themes are: acting and passivity, humility and brotherhood, imitation and non-exclusiveness.
